Barclays Arrival World MasterCard Review

2018.7 Update: It seems it is still possible to get this card via product change.

Application Link

  • This card no longer accepts new applications. If you have this legacy credit card, you can still enjoy its original benefits.

Benefits

  1. Earn 20,000 Miles after spending $1,000 in first 3 months.
  2. Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on dining and travel, 1 miles per $1 spent on other purchases.
  3. The “miles” of Arrival Plus Credit Card cannot be transferred to any airline miles. Instead, 1 mile worth 1 cent if you redeem for travel statement credit, spending first and redeeming miles later, starting from 2,500 miles. For example, you spent $60 on travel, but you only have 2,600 miles, then you can redeem for $26. The remaining $34 can not be redeemed later. You can redeem for any integer larger than $25, but limited to travel purchases within past $120 days. In addition, you can get 5% redeemed miles back, increasing the value of Arrival Plus Miles to 1.05 cent/mile. So the sign-up bonus for this card worth $210, which is decent for a no annual fee card.
  4. No foreign transaction fee.
  5. No annual fee.
  6. This is one of the few U.S. credit cards that supports Chip + Pin, which could be useful in Europe.

Disadvantages

  1. The reward point is called “mile”, but don’t be fooled, it cannot be transferred to any airlines mile; instead, the “mile” can only be used to redeem travel statement credit at 1.05 cent/point.

Recommended Application Time

  1. Barclays value the number of recent hard pulls a lot, we recommend you apply when there’s less than 6 hard pulls in the past 6 months.
  2. We recommend you apply for this card after you have a credit history of at least one year.

Summary

The highlight of Capital One Quicksilver Rewards Credit Card is that it has No Foreign Transaction Fee AND No Annual Fee, which is not common, a similar card is BoA Travel Rewards. The cashback is just so so, the sign-up bonus which worth $210 is decent for a no annual fee card, but still much less than those annual fee cards. If you don’t want to waste a hard pull on this card, you can apply for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus which has a higher sign-up bonus, and then downgrade it to this card and keep it.
