This post is a collection of hotel points -> AA miles promotions. Similar hotel points -> UA miles promotions are collected here.
Now transfer your hotel points to AA mile, you can get 25% bonus miles! Here is the official web page. Some notes:
- You don’t need to register to participate this promotion, just transfer participating hotel points and you will get the bonus miles.
- The promotion ends on June 15, 2017.
- The participating hotels are: Best Western Rewards, Choice Privileges, Club Carlson, Hilton Honors, IHG Rewards Club, Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest, World of Hyatt, Wyndham Rewards.
- It is clearly stated in their terms: “Conversions for hotel and air packages from Hotel Partners are included for this offer.” So you will get the bonus miles with Marriott Travel Packages.
For most of us, the only two meaningful transfer methods are: SPG direct transfer & Marriott Travel Packages.
SPG direct transfer
This method is suitable for people who don’t have a huge amount of SPG/Marriott points. Originally the SPG -> AA transfer rate is 1:1.25, now we have a 25% bonus, so the transfer rate becomes 1:1.5625. If you are interested in AA miles, now it’s the time to transfer!
Marriott Travel Packages
For people who have tons of SPG/Marriott points, the best way to use them is Marriott Travel Packages, see our post A Complete Guide to the Marriott Travel Packages for everything you need to know about it. Without the promotion, the best option is to use 270k Marriott points (or 90k SPG points) to get 120k AA miles + 7 free nights of category 1~5. Now there’s a 25% bonus miles, so we will get 150k AA miles. Even if we throw away the 7 free nights, the SPG -> AA transfer rate is 1.6667! In A Complete Guide to the Marriott Travel Packages, we introduced that we can cancel the hotel portion and get some points back. If we ask to cancel the 7 nights of category 1~5, we will get 45k Marriott points (or 15k SPG points) back. In this case, it’s equivalent to spend 75k SPG points and get 150k AA miles, the transfer rate is as high as 1:2!

Along with the UA bonus promotion yesterday, AA now also has a Marriott Points -> AA bonus miles promotion. Here is the official web page. It’s not as good as the UA promotion, I think only the 270k Marriott Rewards Travel Package is a good choice.
Marriott is participating but SPG is not. Marriott Travel Packages is excluded from this promotion.
