Benefits

  1. Get 25% bonus miles on MileagePlus X purchases. (You don’t have to use this card to make the purchase; instead, you will get the bonus as long as you have this card under your UA account.)
  2. More award availability (XN cabin) with this card.
  3. No annual fee.

Disadvantages

  1. You can only earn 1 mile per $2 spent.
  2. You will never get a Visa Signature level card even if you credit limit has met the $5000 requirement.
  3. There’s no “miles never expire” benefit (UA Explorer card has this benefit so you UA miles won’t expire even if you don’t make any purchases as long as you have UA Explorer).
  4. There’s no free checked bag, priority boarding etc. benefits.
  5. It has foreign transaction fee, so it's not a good choice outside the US.

Summary

If you applied for Chase UA Explorer and Chase UA Club because of high sign up bonus, and don’t want to pay for their annual fees after the first year, then this card is your best downgrade option. By downgrading to this card, you can not only keep your card credit history, but also continue to enjoy the 25% MPX bonus and the ability to see XN availability. XN cabin is the award ticket cabin reserved for UA card holders, so you can see more availability when redeeming UA miles than other people.
