Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve Churning Rule Changed from 24 Months to 48 Months

Update: It seems referral links still show the old 24-month term. Get it while you can. Dead now.

Previously, Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) and Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) have a churning rule:

The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.

Today, Chase changed this term from 24 months to 48 months:

The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.

This is definitely a bad news for us! However, actually this new rule won’t affect many of us: most of us are always over 5/24 and never become eligible for a CSP or CSR anyway.

Lesson learned: just give up churning CSP/CSR. AmEx/Citi/BoA/Barclays etc. also have a lot of good credit cards!
