Mercedes-Benz Cards from American Express Will Be Discontinued in Jan 2019

People used to earn a lot Amex Membership Rewards points by getting sign-up bonuses from different versions of Platinum cards. They currently offer Platinum, Mercedes-Benz Platinum, Schwab Platinum and Ameriprise Platinum for normal users. You at least can get 195k MR points by simply getting sign-up offer of these Platinum cards.

However, if you go to application page of AmEx Platinum for Mercedes-Benz card today, you will see an announcement of end of card program in Jan 2019.

Please note that the American Express and Mercedes Benz Card program will end in January 2019. Applicants can continue to apply for the Platinum Card from American Express exclusively for Mercedes-Benz, but, if approved, the Card will be replaced with a different American Express Card at the time when the Card program ends.

You can find similar language of Mercedes-Benz Credit Card from American Express. So looks there’s no more than 1 year if you want to sign up these cards. After that, I guess the MB Platinum and MB Credit Card will be converted to normal Platinum and Everyday Preferred.

The MB Platinum card once offered 75k MR sign-up bonus in the past, and we don’t know if this could happen in near future. Actually I don’t expect much on a program that will be ended in early next year. So if you want to sign up for the card, this might be a great time.
